Property owners in the City of Amsterdam who are owner occupants of buildingswith 2 – 4 units requesting relief from the fees for water/sewer and garbagefor any unused residential units for the 2022/2023 tax year may file aWater/Sewer/Garbage Abatement form with the City Engineer’s office untilOctober 31, 2021. Waterlines and drain linesmust be cut and capped at the kitchen sink in the unit to be unused by alicensed plumber or if you are the owner and occupant of a two-family dwelling,you may do the plumbing work yourself. A$50.00 inspection fee per cut unit is due upon filing the Abatement form. The property is then inspected by the CityPlumbing Inspector.
Those property owners that request relief from the garbagefee only for the 2022/2023 tax year may file a Garbage Grievance form with theCity Engineer’s office until October 31, 2021. Proof of non-use of services for at least a three-month period shallinclude, but not be limited to: landfillor transfer station permit with load slips and receipts, a valid contract witha private garbage hauler or canceled checks or disconnection of water in thevacant unit.
All property owners with existing Water/Sewer/GarbageAbatements or Garbage User Charge Waivers will be receiving their Continuation forms in the mail. This form must be completed and returned tothe Engineer’s office by October 15, 2021. Failure to re-file the Continuation form will result in forfeiting yourabatement.
