Job Opening - Waste Water Treatment Plant Attendant

The City of Amsterdam is seeking to fill a permanentopening for a Wastewater Treatment Plant Attendant. The position is permanentand will report to the Chief Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator. The WastewaterTreatment Plant Attendant will be responsible for routine custodial, cleaning,and operational duties at the Wastewater treatment plant. Additional duties mayinclude serving as a relief operator on weekends and holiday. Applicants shouldbe reliable and consistent in their attendance and work tasks.

General Statement of Duties:           Performsroutine custodial, cleaning, and operational duties at the Wastewater treatmentplant; does work as required.  Setscomposite samples up and collects samples of industrial users as required byindustrial discharge permits.

 

Distinguishing Features of the Class:            An employee in this class attends tovarious routine custodial and cleaning duties at the Wastewater treatmentplant.  An additional duty is to serve asrelief operator on weekends, holidays and in the absence of regular operatorsand / or maintenance personnel.  The workis carried out under the direction from the Chief Plant Operator or assistantplant operator.

 

Examples of Work:

Performsweekend duty; of monitoring control room scada system, and making periodic walkthroughs of the plant, and outlying pump stations.

Makesadjustments; to pumping rates, chemical feed pump rates, valve adjustments, aswell as other operational adjustments as directed by oral and/ or writteninstructions.

Drives plantvehicle to outlying pump stations to make periodic inspections and cleaning ofscreens.

Performsroutine custodial and maintenance duties; in the care of plant grounds andplant buildings.

In theabsence of assistant operator; assists shift operator in processing sludge,monitoring meters and gauges, taking sewage samples and other operationalduties;

Performsnon-routine operational and maintenance duties as directed;

Set upcomposite samplers at industrial locations;

Collectswastewater samples from industrial users and completes necessary paperworkassociated with sample collections.

 

 

MinimumQualifications

Graduationfrom High School or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one (1)year of experience in custodial, building and grounds upkeep.

Required Knowledges, Skills andAbilities:  Working knowledge of routine custodial andmaintenance procedures; ability to follow oral and written instructions;ability to keep simple records; willingness to work irregular hours such asweekends; manual dexterity; physical strength; mechanical aptitude;dependability; physical condition commensurate with the demands of theposition.
