Important Information Regarding Tax Payments

March 31, 2020

While the City of Amsterdam is operating using only essential employees, it is important to note a few things when it comes to the payment of your property taxes. While City Hall is closed to the public, there are still people here working, and we have the ability to answer questions you may have about the payment of your taxes. There are a few different options available to you all for payment of your April installment of taxes that are due:

1. You can mail any and all tax payments to 61 Church Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Those payments will be processed on a daily basis. Keep in mind that there will be more mail to process than normal, and fewer employees to process them, so processing of those payments may take longer than it usually does. Please do not mail cash to pay your taxes. Check or Money Order is the best option for payment of these taxes.

2. We have a drop box at City Hall for anyone that has to drop off a tax payment but does not wish to mail it in. That drop box is located in the handicap accessible door at City Hall. Please do not leave cash payments in the drop box. Check or Money Order is the best option for payment of these taxes.

3. Your April installment of taxes can also be paid on line by visiting www.amsterdamny.gov. When at the site, click on the tab labeled “Pay Taxes” and follow the instructions to do so.
Given the reduced staff that will be working diligently to process your tax payments, we will not be mailing out receipts of payments collected, as it would be impractical to do so and still follow the guidelines of keeping our staffing to a minimum. If you mail in a tax payment, and the check has not cleared your bank after 1 week, you can reach out to the Controller’s Office at 518-841-4337 to check on the status of your payment.
