Walter was born in Amsterdam, NY on August 5, 1928. He attended St Mary's School, graduating in 1947. He worked for Mohawk Carpets until he enlisted in the Army on October 11, 1950 as an E-1 Private. While serving in the Combat Infantry stationed in Korea, he attained the rank of Master Sergeant. During his service, Walter earned a Combat Infantry Badge, a Distinguished Unit Citation, a Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Star, and a UN Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on October 10, 1952. Walter married Sophie Valikonis in April 1954. He had two sons, Warren and Paul. He worked for General Electric in Schenectady, NY for over 25 years until his retirement in 1990. He passed away in March 2021.
