Corporal Urban E. Levee was bornin 1911 and was educated in Amsterdam Schools. He also attended Amsterdam School of Commerce. Before he enlisted into the Army he was a Real Estate Salesman. Urban enlisted into the Army in 1942 and served with a Chemical Warfare Service attached to a medium bomb group in the South West Pacific. His job duties were supply clerk, kept record keeper, storage and reissue of gasoline at an airbase gasoline dump. He was also involved in the manufacture of Napalm Gas Bombs. Urban's battles and campaigns included Bismark Archipelago, New Guinea, Papusa, Southern Philippines, Luzon and Rykus Islands (Japan). On November 12, 1944 Cpl. Urban was below deck aboard the S.S. Morrison R, Waite in Dulag Harbor, Philippines when it was hit by a Japanese Kamikaze, Twenty-one were killed and forty-three were wounded. Urban passed away in 1964. At the time of his death, he was employed as an outside courier contractor for the U.S. Postal Service in Amsterdam.
