Robert Lembke was born in Amsterdam, NY on December 7, 1917 to William and Wanda Sievert Lembke, German emigrants. He enlisted in the United States Navy on January 7, 1944 and served during World War II. His ship went to Pearl Harbor, Guada Canal, Okinawa, Saipan and Guam. He participated in the Initial Amphibious Landing Operation against the Japanese held islands of Iheya Jima, Ruykyu, Okinawa, Aguni, Shima and Kyushy. He received the Golden Dragon award which was given to crew members of the ship that crossed the International Date Line for the mission of war, various other medals and the Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged.
