Peter (Tony) Zeno served in the U.S Army being the first draftee in 1970 from the Mohawk Valley area under the new lottery system. He completed advanced infantry and basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey and Fort Polk, Louisiana. During training he was awarded badges and medals for Marksman Weapon, Army Expert Shooting in pistol, rifle, and machine gun. Soon after training he was sent to Vietnam and was assigned as point man of the First Calvary Division First Team Airmobile. During his time in Vietnam he served proudly as a combat soldier earning the Air Medal which was awarded to soldiers with multiple flights to a red combat zone, Accommodation Medals for Presidential Unit Citation and Meritorious Unit Commendation. Tony was honorably discharged and returned to the Mohawk Valley area to be surrounded by his family. Tony is a proud Vietnam Veteran and participates in veteran parades and other activities through his local VFW chapter. In 2019, he was welcomed back to Amsterdam for his 50th class reunion and dedication to the Vietnam Veteran Memorial which he felt privileged to participate and that he was acknowledged for his service.
