MSGT Frank M. Cassetta

Frank was born in Amsterdam, NY on August 15, 1928 to his Italian immigrant parents, Nicholas and Rose Mastrofrancesco Cassetta. He grew up on Mathias Avenue and graduated from Wilbur H Lynch Senior High School in 1946 and was engaged to Elaine Cresanti. Master Sergeant Frank M Cassetta was a member of Company G, 2nd Battalion, 27th Regiment, and 25th Infantry Division. On August 21, 1952 he had been scheduled to return to the USA and volunteered to lead a patrol in the "Punch Bowl" Area of North Korea. He was killed while on patrol by enemy fire. For his leadership, gallantry and valor, MSGT Cassetta was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart. He was buried with Military Honors in the Cassetta family plot at St. Michael's Cemetery in Amsterdam.
