Louis B. Stellato was born on June 29, 1924, to Anthony and Filomena Stellato. He lived on the Southside of Amsterdam with his three brothers, Frank, Richard and John and his sister Mary. In February of 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After basic training, he was sent to Europe and into combat as a member of the Big Red One. Louis was wounded in combat and was awarded the Purple Heart as well as other medals. After being discharged in March of 1946 he returned to Amsterdam and married Ann Patterson. Sadly, Louis passed away two years later, December 22, 1952, from pneumonia and a burst lung weakened by the wound he suffered during combat, he was only 28 years old. Louis left behind his loving wife Ann, his 18 month old son (Anthony) and an unborn daughter (Ann Marie) who was born the following April.
