2023/2024 Water/Sewer/Garbage Abatements being accepted

Property owners in the City of Amsterdam who are owner occupants of buildings with 2 – 4 units requesting relief from the fees for water/sewer and garbage for any unused residential units for the 2023/2024 tax year may file a Water/Sewer/Garbage Abatement form with the City Engineer’s office until October 31, 2022.  Waterlines and drain lines must be cut and capped at the kitchen sink in the unit to be unused by a licensed plumber or if you are the owner and occupant of a two-family dwelling, you may do the plumbing work yourself.  A $50.00 inspection fee per cut unit is due upon filing the Abatement form.  The property is then inspected by the City Plumbing Inspector.

Those property owners that request relief from the garbage fee only for the 2023/2024 tax year may file a Garbage Grievance form with the City Engineer’s office until October 31, 2022.   Proof of non-use of services for at least a three-month period shall include, but not be limited to:  landfill or transfer station permit with load slips and receipts, a valid contract with a private garbage hauler or canceled checks or disconnection of water in the vacant unit.

All property owners with existing Water/Sewer/Garbage Abatements or Garbage User Charge Waivers will be receiving their Continuation forms in the mail.  This form must be completed and returned to the Engineer’s office by October 15, 2022.   Failure to re-file the Continuation form will result in forfeiting your abatement.
