The Community Center constitutes an identified community need and will establish a substantial anchor in an underutilized and underserved area of the downtown. This investment stands to establish a stronger community focus for the entire downtown and bolster East Main Street, which has generally been isolated from the rest of downtown because of the presence of the Riverfront Center.
The community center will reside at 149 E Main Street and be the home to the Boys and Girls Club of the Capital Area and Centro Civico-Ibero American Action League. The facility is proposed to be around 8,000 sq ft and offer multiple programming and services for residents of the City.
The project is ongoing with the hope that demolition can begin in the first or second quarter of 2023.
