Tourism

Walter Elwood Museum, Amsterdam, NYOur history and heritage stretches all the way back to the colonial days of the pre-Revolutionary War in the early 1700s to the creation of the byzantine Erie Canal that heralded the dawn of Montgomery County as "the Gateway to the West." We are bordered to the southwest by Cooperstown in Otsego County and to the south by Schoharie County, as well as to our north by Fulton County in the foothills of the Adirondacks, and Saratoga County to our northeast.

The Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce is the official tourism promotion agency (TPA) for Montgomery County in upstate New York, also located within the Central Leatherstocking tourism region of New York State. Come be our guest and enjoy the amazing kaleidoscope of colorful events, attractions, culture and history that await you here. Montgomery County is famous for a multiculturalism that makes our geographic area so unique. Nowhere else in the area will you find such a rich collage of ethnic groups and cultures, including the Native American Mohawk Indians and the Amish, to name just a few.
