Garbage & Recycling Pickup
The City of Amsterdam conveniently provides garbage collection to all residents within the City and the collection of normal garbage is provided as part of your taxes, if you need large items picked up the City offers this as a separate services, and payment may be made to the City Clerk. You may also bring other garbage and large items to the MOSA transfer facility located on Rt. 5S, there is a transfer fee associated with all drop-offs.
The City collects garbage and recyclables throughout the week with the exception of Wednesday mornings, please review the schedule below.
Holiday schedule change for garbage collection
- Monday Holiday - Garbage normally collected on Monday will be collected on Tuesday; Tuesday's garbage will be collected on Wednesday along with Wednesday's normal collection. The remainder of the week will be unchanged.
- Tuesday Holiday - Garbage normally collected on Tuesday will be collected on Wednesday along with Wednesday's normal collection. The remainder of the week will be unchanged.
- Thursday Holiday - Garbage normally collected Thursday will be collected on Wednesday along with Wednesday's normal collection. The remainder of the week will remain unchanged.
- Friday Holiday - Garbage normally collected on Friday will be collected on Thursday and THursday's garbage will be collected on Wednesday along with Wednesday's normal collection. The remainder of the week will be unchanged.

The days that trash is picked up depends on where in the City of Amsterdam you live. If you do not know what day your trash or recyclables are suppose to be collected, you may call the Department of Public Works at (518) 842-3691 for information.
