The City of Amsterdam has focused its efforts on designing and implementing disaster mitigation programs as a means to try and curb the negative effects that could result from a city wide, or even state wide disaster or emergency. These mitigation plans try to point out the most vulnerable spots that could cause major problems in the event of weather related, non man-made emergency or a man-made disaster. The plans are designed to recognize and rectify problems before a major event occurs so that if it does occur, damage and losses will be minimal.
City of Amsterdam Police and Fire officials are trained by the state to recognize danger spots and be able to devise a plan of action that will mitigate any potential problems that could arise from a catastrophic event occurring there.
