2017 Tax Exemption Deadline – City of Amsterdam

Re: EXEMPTION DEADLINE DECEMBER 1, 2017

Mayor Michael J. Villa and Assessor Calvin N. Cline have announced the following information regarding the filing of applications for real estate tax exemptions in the City of Amsterdam:

1. The deadline for filing is Friday, December 1, 2017. All applications and renewals must be submitted by the close of business on Friday, December 1st. Exceptions will be made for mail postmarked on or before December 1st.
Note: City Hall is closed Tuesday November 7 (Election Day), Friday November 10 (Veteran’s Day), Thursday November 23rd and Friday November 24th (Thanksgiving), and weekends.

2. “Enhanced STAR” (School Tax Relief), also known as “Senior STAR”, and “Partial Tax Exemption for Real Property of Senior Citizens”, also known as “Aged” renewal applications must be received by the December 1st deadline. To date, over 100 current recipients have not returned the renewal applications sent to them in September.

3. Taxpayers who receive the Basic STAR exemption are not required to re-file or renew.

4. Taxpayers who are registered with the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance for the new STAR “Credit/Check Program” are not required to re-file or renew.
