About the Amsterdam Industrial Development Agency

Amsterdam Industrial Development AgencyThe numbers tell the story. At about $8 per commercial square foot and many beautiful homes priced under $100,000, our real estate costs are less than half the national average.

Settling in the city of Amsterdam allows businesses to generate major cost savings, residents to buy more house for the dollar, and everyone is set up for a bright financial future in a thriving region.

The Amsterdam Industrial Development Agency or AIDA was created in 1973 as a Public Benefit Corporation for the purpose of assisting in the creation and retention of both employment opportunities and businesses in the City of Amsterdam.

A.I.D.A includes a seven member Board of Director's, this board is appointed by the City Common Council to oversee the Agency's operations. Board members include members of the business community and local residents.

Some of the services provided by AIDA include:

  • Site or Building location assistance
  • Competitive lease rates
  • Property Tax Abatements through Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) programs

AIDA has assisted companies in finding appropriate space for their business in the past, for example we recently helped a company that needed some more space recently for a process that they did not have room for in their existing facility. AIDA went to several building owners in the area and was able to make a connection for them. They are now leasing space in a building in the City of Amsterdam that we were able to help them obtain.

Bonding is done with the help of our Bond Counsel, a law firm located in Albany, NY. We as an IDA have the power to obtain bonds.

Regarding training programs, we do not administer them ourselves but we are able to refer to other places that provide them like the Workforce Solutions Center that we work closely with. AIDA has many relationships with area groups and entities and can be their "ONE STOP" to look for assistance in our area.

AIDA works with a number of other agencies including the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce and the Montgomery County Industrial Development Agency. We do not do any of the paperwork for these organizations, or provide their services, but merely work together with them in an effort to promote the entire area with an emphasis on Amsterdam and any services that they have that would benefit the parties we are working with.
